To create a new job in SECANT first select either the main 3-bar menu option Job/New… or press the New toolbar button. This will open a Windows dialog allowing you to select the directory location to store your job and also give the job a name which will allow you to open it again in the future. Once you have given your job a name press OK to display the “Set control and stock information” screen.
SECANT can maintain a library of default settings for your controls, along with a library of stock files. Either accept the default settings, or select alternatives using the “…” button before pressing the OK button to continue.
The Job Dialog will now open which is used to view cut part information, stock availability and cutting controls associated with this particular job – along with the pattern set and reports once generated. Use the 3-bar View menu to display the data you are interested in – the stock file and cutting controls will have been copied from the defaults you selected in the previous step. The minimum information you’ll need to enter into the Cutting List is the Length, Width and Quantity of each part required – with a different part on each line. You can also add Overmake to allow the system to overproduce on requirement if necessary, Grain if working with parts with a direction and Material if working with a mixture of different materials in a single job.
Once you have added your Cutting List generate your optimised patterns by pressing the Optimise toolbar button (or selecting Optimize from the 3-bar menu). Once the pattern generation is complete your patterns will be displayed in the Pattern Editor from which they can be viewed or modified before producing printed reports through the Output/Report menu option or downloading directly to your saw (if available).
